Hawaiian Idyll: John Melville Kelly
Natsha Roessler Drucker, Honolulu Academy of Arts 2009
This beautiful book was published by the Honolulu Academy of Arts in late 2009. In addition to serving as a catalogue of the Academy’s 2005 exhibit by the same name, Hawaiian Idyll also offers a biography with vintage photographs depicting the fascinating life and times of John Kelly and his wife Kate Harland Kelly, a talented sculptor and photographer.
Leaving their home where they were active in the Bay Area Bohemian arts movement, they moved to Hawai’i in 1923. They quickly became immersed in a rapidly changing Island culture. Written by Natasha Roessler, the book was designed by Hawai’i’s award-winning graphic artist, Barbara Pope, of Barbara Pope Book Design.
